Who Is Jesus?

More Than a Teacher. More Than a Prophet. He’s the Savior Who Changes Everything.

At Church of Grace, we believe that the most important question any of us will ever answer is: Who is Jesus?

When you walk through our front doors, you will be greeted by a large sign that says, "Jesus Changes Everything," because He truly does. For some, He’s a historical figure. For others, He’s a great moral teacher. But Scripture shows us that He’s so much more—He’s the Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the only One who can redeem our brokenness and restore our relationship with God.

Let’s take a closer look at what history, Scripture, and the Spirit of God reveal about Jesus—and how knowing Him personally can change your life.

Was Jesus a Real Person? Yes—And So Much More.

You don’t have to check your brain at the door to believe in Jesus. Historians from both inside and outside the Christian faith agree on several key facts about His life:

  • Jesus lived in first-century Judea.
Roman historian Tacitus and Jewish scholar Josephus both mention Jesus as a real person who made a significant impact. Other historical references to Jesus are made by: Suetonius, Thallus, Pliny the Younger, Emperor Trajan, Emperor Hadrian, Lucian, Mara bar Serapion (Taken from Gary R. Habermas: “On the Resurrection: Evidences”).

  • He was known for His teaching and miracles.
Even those who don’t follow Jesus recognize that He radically shaped history—and transformed countless lives. There is significant historical documentation of the works and actions of Jesus.

  • He was crucified under Pontius Pilate.
This is one of the most universally accepted events in ancient history, confirmed by both Christian and non-Christian sources.

But while history confirms that Jesus lived, the Bible tells us why He came.

Who Does the Bible Say Jesus Is?

Scripture paints a powerful picture of who Jesus is—not just what He did.

Jesus Is the Son of God

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…”
 – John 3:16
He wasn’t just sent from God. He is God.

Jesus Is God in the Flesh

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.”
 – John 1:14
Jesus is God made visible—fully divine, fully human. He stepped into our brokenness to bring us back to the Father. Jesus fully expressed the character and nature of God the Father.

Jesus Is the Savior

“You are to give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.”
 – Matthew 1:21
His very name means “salvation.” That’s not just His title—it’s His mission.

Did Jesus Ever Sin? No—And That Changes Everything.

Though Jesus faced temptation, He never gave in. He lived a sinless, perfect life—something no one else in history has ever done.

“He was tempted in every way, just as we are—yet He did not sin.”
 – Hebrews 4:15

Why does that matter? Because it means He could take our place.

“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us…”
 – 2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus didn’t just live the perfect life—we needed Him to die the perfect death so that we could be made right with God. Our righteousness is no longer provided by us; Jesus provides it for us. The Apostle Paul wrote:

“I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ.” – Philippians 3:9

Why Did Jesus Die?

This wasn’t a tragic accident or a political execution—it was a rescue mission.

  • The Problem: Sin separates us from God.

“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

  • The Result: Death and spiritual separation.

“The wages of sin is death…” – Romans 6:23

  • The Solution: Jesus took our place.

“He was pierced for our transgressions… by His wounds we are healed.” – Isaiah 53:5

Jesus willingly went to the cross so we could be forgiven and made new. And He didn’t stay in the grave—He rose again, defeating death so that we could live forever with Him. His resurrection is the Hope of every believer that they too will be resurrected and all wrongs made right.

Who Is Jesus… Really?

Here’s what Scripture tells us:

  • “I am the way and the truth and the life.”John 14:6
Jesus is the only way to the Father—not one path among many, but the path God Himself has provided.

  • “In Him all things hold together.”Colossians 1:17
He’s not just the center of the Bible story—He’s the center of everything.

  • “I am the Alpha and the Omega.”Revelation 1:8
Jesus is eternal. He was there in the beginning, and He’ll be there in the end.
  • “He is the Chief Shepherd. – 1 Peter 5:4

He is not just watching us from a distance, He is intimate with us, caring for our souls and guiding us through life.

How Should We Respond to Jesus?

Knowing about Jesus is one thing. Knowing Him—personally—is what He invites you into.

“And this is the way to have eternal life – to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.” – John 17:3

Here’s how:

1. Recognize Your Need for Grace

We’ve all fallen short. But Jesus came to meet us in that place.

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
 – Romans 10:9

2. Turn Toward God

Repentance isn’t about guilt—it’s about freedom. It’s a decision to leave sin behind and follow Jesus. It’s a commitment of faith and loyalty to God and His ways.

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.”
 – Acts 3:19

3. Walk with Him Daily

Jesus wants a relationship, not religion. That means talking to Him, reading His Word, and walking in step with His Spirit.

At Church of Grace, we’re here to walk with you on that journey—no matter where you’re starting from.

So... Who Is Jesus to You?

He’s not just a figure from the past. He’s alive. He’s personal. And He’s calling your name.

Jesus is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, the Redeemer of your soul, and the One who loves you more than you could ever imagine. He’s the answer to the deepest questions of your heart—and the only one who can give you true peace, lasting joy, and eternal life. He is the answer to the deepest yearnings in your heart, He is the one who will give you identity and purpose. He is everything you desire.

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” – St. Augustine

Will you follow Him?
